HYPERFEAST is built to need as little personal information as possible. There are no advertising trackers, and the only accounts are for the free Pick'Em game (a username and an email address). We do not sell or rent personal information.

What we collect

  • Morning email (only if you sign up). Your email address, the teams you choose, and when you confirmed. We send it through our email provider, Resend. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link; unsubscribing stops the emails, and we delete your address on request. Sign-ups that are never confirmed are deleted automatically.
  • Pick'Em game (only if you play). Your username, your email address, your picks and the leagues you join, plus a record of the devices signed in (browser and system, such as "Chrome on Windows", and when it was last used) so you can sign them out. There is no password: we email a one-time code or link that expires in 15 minutes, and we store only scrambled (hashed) versions of codes, links, session cookies and backup codes. Your email is used to sign you in and so there is one player per person; it is never shown to other players and never sold. Your username and record appear on the public leaderboard. We send the morning email only if you tick the box and confirm by link. We use one cookie, hf_pk, to keep you signed in (60 days since you last visited; it is strictly necessary and used for nothing else). You can delete your account yourself under Account in Pick'Em: it removes your player, picks and memberships and unsubscribes your email. Accounts that never confirm their email are deleted after 7 days.
  • Browser notifications (only if you turn them on). The notification address your browser gives us and the teams you follow, so we can send alerts. Turning notifications off in your browser or on the site stops them.
  • Story reports. When you press ⚑ to report a story, we store which story, the reason you picked and any note you type. We do not store who sent it.
  • Technical data. Like every website, our servers and our network provider, Cloudflare, process your IP address and browser information to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We may use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits without cookies and without tracking you across sites.

Stored only in your browser

Your favorite teams, light/dark setting and similar preferences are saved in your own browser (local storage). They are not sent to us, except that the team names are included when your browser asks our server for those teams' headlines.

Other sites and services

  • News articles open on the publishers' own sites, under their privacy policies. Story pictures load from the publishers' servers.
  • Scores, schedules, standings and leaders are loaded by your browser directly from ESPN's public data service, so ESPN receives a normal web request from your browser.
  • Affiliate links ("Shop gear", "Tickets") go to Fanatics or SeatGeek through our affiliate network, Impact, which may set cookies to credit the referral. Their privacy policies apply once you leave HYPERFEAST.

Your choices and rights

You can unsubscribe from email at any time, turn off notifications in your browser, and clear your saved favorites by clearing this site's data in your browser. To ask what we hold about you, or to have it corrected or deleted, contact the address on our contact page. Depending on where you live (for example California or the EU/UK) you may have further rights under local law; we will honor them.

Children

HYPERFEAST is a general-audience news site and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child has signed up for our email, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date above.
